Around the Baldeneysee
The Walking Day traditionally takes place the day before the Essen Marathon, around the Baldeneysee in Essen Instead. Young, old, professional or passionate amateur athlete, simply everyone who wants to be physically active among like-minded people can participate. Beginners and those less ambitious can do the introductory loop (4.5 kilometers). The so-called 'North Loop' runs 8.5 kilometers along the north bank of the Baldeneysees. Participants with stamina complete the Lake round, which goes once around the Baldeneysee and is stated to be 15 kilometers long.
Fitness and disease prevention
With six different walking and Nordic walking competitions on the program, there's something for everyone. Because that's precisely what Walking Day is all about: exercise for everyone. Exercise is fun, boosts well-being, and helps prevent a range of illnesses. It's no wonder, then, that the Northwest Regional Association of Company Health Insurance Funds (BKK) is the main sponsor of Walking Day in Essen. The umbrella organization of company health insurance funds in North Rhine-Westphalia has been supported by the Essen University Medicine Foundation since 2016.
Start and finish
It starts on Saturday at 1:30 pm next to the Regatta grandstand. This is also the finish line. Those who arrive early might still be lucky enough to snag a spot in the regatta parking lot or along Freiherr-vom-Stein-Straße around the... Seaside Beach Baldeney. Since the Hügel S-Bahn station is just a stone's throw from the start and finish, it is recommended to travel by S-Bahn line S6, which runs between Essen Central Station and Düsseldorf or Cologne.
Weather at the Walking Day
The Walking Day ‚Around the Baldeneysee‘ has been taking place since 2003 and is therefore a firmly established event in the walking and Nordic walking scene. Like the Essen Marathon The following day, Sunday, the Walking Day is also being organized by the athletics department of TUSEM Essen. A remarkable achievement, considering the club manages this entirely through volunteer work. We think: all the more reason to support the event by participating yourself.
