Around the Baldeneysee
On the day before the Essen Marathon, the Walking Day traditionally takes place around the Baldeneysee in Essen. Young, old, professional or passionate amateur athlete, simply anyone who wants to get active with like-minded people can take part. Beginners and the less ambitious can take part in the trial loop (4.5 kilometers). The so-called 'northern loop' runs 8.5 kilometers along the northern shore of Lake Baldeney. Participants with stamina complete the lake loop, which runs once around the lake and is 15 kilometers long. Baldeneysee and is estimated to be 15 kilometers long.
Fitness and disease prevention
With six different walking and Nordic walking competitions on the program, there should be something for everyone. Because that's what Walking Day is all about: Exercise for everyone. After all, exercise is fun, increases well-being and prevents a range of illnesses. So it's no wonder that the Northwest Regional Association of Company Health Insurance Funds (BKK) is the main sponsor of Walking Day in Essen. The umbrella organization of the company health insurance funds in North Rhine-Westphalia has been supported by the Essen University Medicine Foundation since 2016.
Start and finish
The race starts on Saturday at 1.30 pm next to the regatta grandstand. This is also where the finish line is located. If you arrive in good time, you may be lucky enough to get a spot in the regatta parking lot or on Freiherr-vom-Stein-Straße around Seaside Beach Baldeney. As the Hügel S-Bahn station is just a stone's throw away from the start and finish, we recommend taking the S6 S-Bahn line, which commutes between Essen's main station and Düsseldorf or Cologne.
Weather on Walking Day
The Walking Day 'Around the Baldeneysee' has been taking place since 2003, making it a permanent fixture in the walking and Nordic walking scene. Like the Essen Marathon on the following day, Sunday, the Walking Day is also organized by the athletics department of TUSEM Essen. A remarkable achievement when you consider that the club manages this solely with voluntary commitment. We think: One more reason to support the event with your own participation. Information on the weather at Walking Day Essen 'Rund um den Baldeneysee' can be found on Baldeneysee.Ruhr.
