The countdown is on – SMAG Sundance celebrates 20 years of festival history

Summer 2025 promises a highlight for all fans of electronic music: On July 12th, the Seaside Beach Baldeney at Baldeneysee in Essen back to the epicenter of sun-drenched beats – that SMAG Sundance The open-air festival is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The countdown is on, anticipation is building, and the lineup is set.

What began two decades ago with local acts is now an integral part of the festival community. SMAG and Sundance became a stage for rising stars. Above all, Robin Schulz, who once stood behind the decks at SMAG before his career skyrocketed globally. In 2015, he played an exclusive open-air gig at Sundance on the Baldeneysee decks. At that time, his hits like “Prayer in C,” “Waves,” and “Sun Goes Down” were on the cusp of, and simultaneously at the peak of, his international breakthrough. A legendary moment for the festival – and certainly a boost for his career.

To celebrate the anniversary, the organizers are going even further: A new main stage will take the festival feeling to the next level. The 2025 lineup is, of course, a statement and a journey through 20 years of electro-pop history: HBz, Vize, The Disco Boys, Moguai, Plastik Funk, Oliver Magenta, and many more will bring dancefloor vibes right by the water.

Local hero DJ Fishi will be performing on the Celebration Stage alongside his son Matteo Fischer. They will be joined by Eric Smax and Kørwyn. It's safe to say: EDM tradition meets the next generation.

While only a few regular tickets remain, the festival offers additional optional highlights with special promotions such as the "20-Year-Old Anniversary Ticket" and exclusive VIP experiences. For example, visitors who turn 20 on the day of the event can secure a special ticket for €20. Of course, ID checks will be conducted for this special offer.

Besides music, festival-goers can look forward to a wide range of culinary delights with various food stalls, chill-out zones, and interactive activities.
