Plans for parking fees at Baldeneysee are becoming more concrete.
The city of Essen has presented plans for managing the parking areas at the Regatta Tower. The aim is to implement a temporary parking fee system, applicable only during the spring and summer months, to alleviate parking congestion and optimize parking usage. Implementation of these measures depends on a decision by the city council, expected in June 2025.
Timeframe and fee arrangements
Parking fees will be levied annually from April 15th to October 15th. Outside of this period – from October 16th to April 14th of the following year – parking will be free. Fees will be charged daily between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. A day ticket option will also be introduced for a fixed price of €5. The parking rates are based on the existing fee schedule for parking zone 4 and have been specifically designed for the spring and summer months (see information box). In less busy areas... Autumn- and during the winter months, no fees will be charged.
Involvement of local clubs
A significant part of the planning involves considering the needs of local sports clubs, which often have no or insufficient parking spaces. Through ongoing dialogue with the clubs, several measures have been developed to alleviate this problem:

The plans have now been officially submitted to the council, where political discussions are scheduled to take place in the coming weeks. A final decision is expected in June 2025. Only after a positive resolution from the council can preparations and the technical implementation of the parking fee regulations begin. Until then, parking at the regatta tower will remain free of charge.
