Measure for increased safety on the Baldeneysee
Essen, Baldeneysee, October 13, 2025. Some may wonder what the Hamburg work platform has been doing since the beginning of the week. Baldeneysee The last time it was used was when the sailing section of the Essen Gymnastics and Fencing Club got a new jetty for their sailboats. Now it's back – and again it's for a project that improves the infrastructure on the lake: the construction of a new jetty at the DLRG station between the Seaside Beach Baldeney and the Südtiroler Stuben.
What is being built – and why now?
The new jetty is intended to further improve the operational capabilities of the DLRG Essen (German Life Saving Association). The station in Heisingen has been a central hub for water rescue operations on the ITP65T waterway for decades. With the new jetty in front of the DLRG station in Bredeney Not only will access for rescue boats be made easier, but safety for water sports enthusiasts will also be increased. In addition to the German Life Saving Association (DLRG), the Essen Fire Department also used the aging and dilapidated jetty for training exercises and operations. The project coincides with the 100th anniversary of the DLRG Essen District together – a symbolic moment for an investment in the future.
A century of saving lives
Since 1925, the DLRG (German Life Saving Association) Essen branch has been committed to water safety. What once began as a small group is now a modern organization with supra-regional significance. The new jetty is part of a series of modernizations that will undoubtedly strengthen the DLRG's operational readiness and training capabilities.
Technology and logistics
The Hamburg work platform, a floating construction device specifically designed for work on water, is being used for this purpose. It allows for the safe construction of the jetty directly on the shore without putting undue strain on the shoreline. Construction is expected to be completed in November – in time for the end of the DLRG's official lifeguard season, which traditionally ends in mid-November.
A project with symbolic power
The new jetty is more than just a technical structure – it is a symbol of the commitment of the city of Essen and the German Life Saving Association (DLRG) to safety and quality of life at the Baldeneysee. Especially in times when leisure activities on the water are becoming increasingly popular, a well-equipped rescue station is indispensable.
