Paid parking facilities with digital equipment
Essen, Baldeneysee, April 11, 2025. The Essen Gymnastics and Fencing Club (ETUF) has extensively renovated and expanded the open space it uses, also known as the "gravel parking lot," on Freiherr-vom-Stein-Straße, in the immediate vicinity of the regatta tower and Baldeneysee. Equipped with a digital parking sign, barriers, and a modern parking meter, the parking area has been officially in operation since April 11, 2025.
Professional parking area
Several months prior, the area had been enclosed and secured with a high-quality, anthracite-colored wire mesh fence and a gate. The area was recently renovated as part of construction work and, according to the signage, expanded to 100 parking spaces. This involved gaining additional space on the right side and compacting the entire area with gravel. The typical puddles that used to form on this site after rain, and which were also common during the annual Christmas tree sale, are now likely a thing of the past. LED streetlights also provide illumination for the entire area.
Details of the new parking facility
Entry and exit are via Freiherr-vom-Stein-Straße, approximately opposite house number 201. A digital sign next to the entrance displays available parking spaces. Separate terminals for ETUF members and non-members are located before the entrance barrier. Parking tickets can only be paid cashless at the machine near the exit barrier. Parking fees are listed on the information board. Entry is permitted daily between 5:00 a.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Parking fees at Baldeneysee
These renovation and redesign measures for the open space are taking place before the city of Essen raises parking fees around the Baldeneysee wants to introduce. Especially in parking areas at the regatta tower and above the Seaside Beach Baldeney along Freiherr-vom-Stein-Straße in Bredeney district of Essen It is expected to become subject to a fee later this year.
