Korte Klippe

The Korte Klippe is a vantage point on the Baldeneysee. It is located in the Heisingen district of Essen, more precisely on the path between the city forest and Heisingen. The Korte Klippe on the Baldeneysee can only be reached on foot or by bike. A small circular hiking trail marked with an S leads from Heisinger Straße to Korte Klippe after a five-minute walk.

From here, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Baldeneysee. As the name suggests, the Korte Klippe is located above Baldeneysee at a height of around 144 meters above sea level. A steep slope falls below the Korte Klippe down to Baldeneysee. The geological hiking trail is also located here. The Baldeneysee Steig, also known as the Baldeney Steig, a circular hiking trail around 25 kilometers long over the heights of the Ruhr reservoir, also runs along here.

Where sandstone was once extracted from quarries, Korte Klippe is a reminder of this time. This is because the Korte Klippe is fortified with a convex, half-height wall topped with sandstone. The cliff was named after the Essen horticultural director Rudolf Korte (+ 1950). A memorial stone erected here commemorates him.

If you arrive by car, park in the rear parking lots opposite the restaurant Jagdhaus Schellenberg restaurant. The bus stop "Schöne Aussicht" (as the Jagdhaus Schellenberg used to be called) is also located here. Near the Korte Klippe to the west are the Neu Isenburg ruins and the Hüttenzauber excursion restaurant (formerly known as Heimliche Liebe) as well as the adjacent miniature golf course, Miniatur Golf am Stadtwald. Schellenberg Castle is located to the south-east of the Korte Klippe.
