International Spring Regatta 2026 on the Baldeneysee – Canoe Sport Event with Lord Mayor Kufen

Essen, Germany, May 13, 2026. On Saturday, May 9, the Ruhr transformed into a canoe racing arena for the International Spring Regatta. Around 700 canoeists from Germany, the Benelux countries, and Italy participated in this traditional event, showcasing impressive performances. With this regatta, the Ruhr once again confirms itself as one of Germany's most significant rowing stages, captivating not only with its scenic beauty but also with its excellent accessibility and sporting importance.

Mayor Thomas Kufen made a point of personally attending the event. In a brief address, he emphasized that the Baldeneysee is not only a venue for sporting competitions but also a place that brings people together. For many of the participants, the regatta represents a first, crucial assessment at the beginning of the season. Especially the young talents in the Youth Cup were able to gain valuable experience this weekend, which will support them on their way to further sporting success. The Baldeneysee, surrounded by charming landscapes and historical monuments, not only offers the athletes an ideal racing course but also an inspiring atmosphere. The combination of sport and history makes this place so unique and special, as the competitions take place at the foot of the historically rich Villa Hügel instead, Germany's largest single-family home.
