Museum railroad Essen
The Hespertalbahn at Baldeneysee in Essen Kupferdreh offers railroad fans of all ages a year-round rail service with historic locomotives and faithfully restored trains. The railroad runs along a route of around 3.4 kilometers along the southern shore of Lake Baldeney, between the old Kupferdreh railroad station, which is now the restaurant Lukas restaurant, and Haus Scheppen.
As early as the 19th century, the railroad in the Hespertal valley served as a means of transportation for mines where iron ore and lime were extracted, and later for the Pörtingsiepen colliery. Today, steam locomotives and diesel locomotives, trolleys and rail buses are used on the museum railway line on fixed dates. There are also special trips such as the Santa Claus Express, Waiting for the Christ Child and Children's Day. It all starts at the newly built track next to the engine shed. Both have been in use since 2015.
The museum railroad is operated by an association, Hespertalbahn e.V., which is committed to bringing this monument to industrial history to life.
