Hermann's view
Hermann's view, Hermannsblick, also known as Hermannsblick, is a viewpoint above the Baldeneysee. This otherwise unnamed spot on the north side of the Baldeneysee is said to have been named 'Hermanns Blick' by a group of hikers in the 1990s. More on that later. Located in the 'Schellenberger Wald' forest south of Essen, Hermannsblick can only be reached on foot or by bicycle.
Hermann's View is located below the leisure facility 'Emil Frick Heim' and above the '‚Seaside Beach Baldeney‚, of the ‚Seeblick D‘ and the snack bar and kiosk ‚Tango on Baldeneysee‚'. Nearby are the Baldeney Castle with the 'Remise' and the castle chapel, the 'Magdalene Chapel', the 'Baldeneyer Ferry', a formerly popular but for years closed restaurant building, as well as the 'Garden Restaurant by the Lake, Café and Grill' and the '‚pier 'Seeblick', specially built for the flagship of the 'White Fleet', the 'MS Innogy'.
Path to Hermann's View
The Hermanns Blick viewpoint can be reached via an unpaved path that branches off at an acute angle from Freiherr-vom-Stein-Straße to the right of the Tango at Baldeneysee The path branches off and leads uphill. Given the sometimes loose ground, sturdy footwear is recommended. The trail, washed out by rain, runs parallel to Freiherr-vom-Stein-Straße below for about 400 meters uphill to Hermann's Viewpoint. When the overgrown vegetation thins out and a wall reinforces the path on the left, Hermann's Viewpoint is practically reached.
Hermann's friends
From Hermann's Viewpoint, the eye sweeps eastward to the Essen district of Heisingen. Directly opposite, the fields and forests of the districts can be seen. Fish coat and Werden. Hermann's view was painted in white on the stones below the viewpoint. The letters "Alfo" are just barely visible underneath. They refer to Alfons Horn, who is said to have occasionally hiked past here with his friends. In an interview with the local radio station 'Radio Essen', he explains the origin of the name 'Hermann's View': they named the viewpoint in 1993 in memory of their companion Hermann, who had passed away at that time, and three years later painted the name on the wall.
A place for lovers
But it's not just hikers who enjoy the viewpoint, which offers a panoramic view after traversing densely overgrown forests. For couples, Hermann's View offers seclusion in a wildly romantic setting. Two trees at Hermann's View bear witness to this, their bark bearing the inscriptions of many lovers.
