Nature reserve in Essen-Heisingen
The bird sanctuary at Baldeneysee is called Heisinger Bogen. It is located on the northern shore of the lake in the Heisingen district of Essen and was created in the 1930s immediately after the lake was built. The area includes shallow water areas, swimming areas and remnants of alder swamp forest, which serve as a habitat for many bird species and other animals. The area is an important resting place for migratory birds and home to special and rare species such as kingfishers and little grebes. Rare species
The Heisinger Bogen bird sanctuary on Baldeneysee is home to a number of rare and protected species in addition to the well-known native birds. Basking turtles
