Haus Scheppen - Lehnshof
Haus Scheppen is an architectural and archaeological monument on the Baldeneysee from the 14th century. The historical feudal estate of the former Werden Abbey takes its name from the "Lords of Scheppen", the feudal lords at the time. Parts of the ruins from the Middle Ages have been preserved to this day. The Essener Fahrtensegler- und Kanuverein e.V., EFKV for short, has its club headquarters here and uses the moat as a harbor.
Harbor Haus Scheppen
The harbour has around 80 boat moorings with electricity, which are suitable for boats up to ten meters long and one meter thirty deep. Drinking water is also available on site, as is a slipway. If you are interested, please contact the harbour master at Haus Scheppen.
Directions to the Haus Scheppen
The farmstead Haus Scheppen once comprised up to 24 farmsteads and was one of the largest fiefs of Werden Abbey. It is strategically located on the southern shore of Lake Baldeney and can be reached via the Pörtingsiepen road from Hespertal and from Fischlaken via Maasstraße. Visitors should note that the Hardenbergufer road, which runs directly along the Baldeneysee, is largely closed to motorized vehicles.
Parking at Haus Scheppen
There is a public parking lot on the Pörtingsiepen road just before Haus Scheppen. It is advisable to use this and walk the last few meters, as the few parking spaces directly in front of Haus Scheppen are usually already occupied and turning is sometimes risky due to the large number of motorcycles, bicycles and inline skaters. The square directly in front of Haus Scheppen is home to a well-known and popular motorcycle meeting place.
Around Haus Scheppen
Around the Haus Scheppen you will find: the motorcycle club Haus Scheppen, the terminus of the Hespertalbahn ( Haus Scheppen station), the Haus Scheppen jetty and the Essen Yacht Club and camping park Baldeneysee. Refreshments are available at two stalls, the Lieblingsbude and a second self-service stall.
