The weekly market in Essen-Kettwig is today a lively meeting point for residents, gourmets, and visitors to the historic old town. Around 1910, the well-known „Plante-Frauen“ (plant women) from the surrounding area shaped the market scene with their garden produce. Even older is the historic Kettwig annual fair, which was officially documented as early as 1317.

Today's marketplace previously served as a turning point for mail coaches and a stopping point for farm wagons. Even back then, it was therefore a central place for trade and meeting – a function it still fulfills today.

The offerings range from crisp fruits and vegetables to flowers, meat, and fresh fish, as well as baked goods and regional specialties. The vendors stand for quality, advice, and a personal shopping experience, which often also holds real bargains.
