About the monument – Villa Hügel
Between 1870 and 1873, Alfred Krupp (1812–1887) commissioned the construction of this imposing estate – as a private residence, a place of retreat, and simultaneously an expression of the highest standards of prestige. The villa, known as Villa Hügel, remained in the Krupp family's possession until 1945. The former industrialist's residence comprises 269 rooms and is nestled within a sprawling 28-hectare park. To this day, the interior reflects the bourgeois lifestyle of the German Empire, making the villa a striking site steeped in history.
