Details

Railway enthusiasts can experience pure nostalgia on a ride with the steam locomotive* of the Hespertalbahn. Steam train rides take place several times a year in the south of Essen, directly on the Baldeneysee line. What makes this experience special: not only do the steam locomotives, as monuments of the Ruhr region's industrial history, turn back the clock, but the route between the old Kupferdreh station and the Haus Scheppen line is also a living relic of 19th-century history.

At a speed of approximately 15 km/h, the steaming locomotive chugs along the south side of the Baldeneysee towards Fischlaken. Passengers on historic passenger trains experience the history of the railway and the industrialization of Germany, which had an important center in the Ruhr region.

Children's Day at Hespertalbahn eV.

On Children's Day, formerly known as "Teddy Bear Day," organized by the Hespertalbahn eV, everything revolves around the youngest railway enthusiasts. The organizers, the Hespertalbahn eV, promise a colorful program at their home station in Kupferdreh as well as at the Haus Scheppen station. In addition to experiencing historic railways from different eras up close, refreshments will also be available. The program will be published on the organizers' website.
