About the monument – Mayor's House in Essen-Werden
The neoclassical building was erected in 1833 by the company Vogelsang & Co. and is considered one of the architectural treasures of the early 19th century. From 1895, it served as the residence of the Feulgen family, cloth manufacturers who had already relocated their production from the city center to the Neukirchen district in 1868. From 1920, Josef Breuer, the city's last mayor, lived in the house. Since 1986, it has been officially recognized as a historical monument – a significant example of the residential and representational culture of the industrial bourgeoisie. Since 1985, the house has been used as a vibrant cultural center, offering over 100 diverse events annually.
