Action on the Ruhr: The Ocean Sports Challenge 2026 in Essen-Werden on Baldeneysee

On Saturday, September 12, 2026, the Ruhr will once again become a competition arena in Löwental in Essen-Werden: At the Lion's Race – Ocean Sports Challenge, surfski, outrigger, va'a, SUP, and prone paddlers will compete on a roughly ten-kilometer course. Directly below the Baldeneysee, spectators will experience exciting races, dynamic laps, and real ocean sports feeling in the Ruhr area.

The popular BigSUP Fun Race is also back on the agenda – a team race that ensures fun, action, and spectacular moments. The event is organized by the Kanu-Gesellschaft Assindia e.V.
