From sundowners to Stauder pub quizzes to the dance floor
In the early evening of April 30, 2026, a soft shimmer lies over the Baldeneysee. The sun still stands above the slopes of Heisingen, the water plunges into a warm gold, and on the paths around the shore, joggers, walkers, and the first revelers making their way mingle. It’s one of those evenings when the lake seems to have decided to finally shake off winter. Anyone out this evening feels it immediately: the Baldeneysee is not a place where you just slide into May. Here, people celebrate, are seen, laugh, and of course dance – and at several locations that couldn’t be more different.
Stauder Pub Quiz in Stadtwald
At the top of the mountain, where the road winds through the forest in tight curves, lies the Secret love. Even from afar, you can hear voices, music, the clinking of glasses. Inside, the Stauder pub quiz is taking place, a format that has long been more than just a quiz night. It's a newly conceived ritual, a meeting place, a small piece of Essen identity. And today, on April 30th, it's the prelude to a night that ends with dancing. Guests laugh, discuss, shout answers into the room – and outside, the terrace awaits, offering a fantastic view of the Baldeneysee and inviting romantic togetherness, while the lake glitters below.
The night by the lake in Lujo
Down by the water, directly on the south bank of the Baldeneysee, and just a few steps from the water, lies the LUJO. It all starts at 6 p.m. with a DJ, barbecue, and hot beats. The minimum consumption is 20 euros. The terrace is already fully occupied in the early evening, glasses clink, voices buzz through the air. Here life is celebrated and the dance into May is celebrated as a way of life. Young people, couples, singles – they all sit by the water, watch the last rowers glide across the lake, bid farewell to the sun as it disappears behind the hills of Kruppwald, and wait for the music to get louder and the night to begin. When the lights go on later and are reflected on the water, that special moment is created that only the Baldeneyseecan offer: a mix of city and nature, of celebration and tranquility, of movement and silence.
Culinary Station Kupferdreh
The Dance into May at the Lukas – Culinary Station Kupferdreh For years, this has been one of the most popular events in Essen's south. Today, April 30, 2026, the historic venue on Prinz-Friedrich-Platz once again invites guests to a large May Day party, attracting visitors from Kupferdreh, Heisingen, the Werden area, and the entire Baldeneysee region. The Lukas combines its unique industrial charm with a diverse program. From 7 p.m. onwards, the party continues late into the night on two dance floors: In the main hall, the live band NIL will create an energetic atmosphere with a wide repertoire of rock, pop, and party songs. In the adjacent "Garage," DJ Moustache and DJ Jason Andrew will take over the musical reins, delivering danceable beats for those who prefer a club atmosphere. The combination of live music and DJ sets makes this event a real crowd-pleaser. The Lukas also has plenty to offer in terms of food and drink on April 30th. Guests can look forward to a barbecue, strawberry punch, cocktails, and seasonal beverages – perfect for welcoming spring at the Baldeneysee. The €10 entrance fee also makes the event an attractive destination for anyone seeking a pleasant evening in a special atmosphere. The Baldeneysee is just a few steps away.
An evening that connects the districts
Kupferdreh, Heisingen, Bredeney, Werden, Fish coat, Heidhausen, Kettwig, Stadtwald – some of these districts do not offer their own major events this evening. But this is precisely what makes the Baldeneysee a common meeting point for your May Day eve experience. People from all over the south of Essen and the surrounding towns flock here, on foot, by bike, by public transport, by their own car, to experience the May Day eve 2026 at the Baldeneysee.
