
New record: 42.9 million camping overnight stays in 2024

Positive trend
Although prices for motorhome pitches have risen by 27.7 percent and campsite fees by 24.6 percent since 2020, camping continues to grow in popularity despite the higher costs. This positive trend is expected to continue in 2025.
Ruhr area, a tourist magnet
Ruhr Tourism GmbH recently announced that the tourism trend is also impacting the Ruhr region. With 4.6 million guests and 9.1 million overnight stays, accommodation providers in the Ruhr region achieved a new record result in 2024. Compared to the previous year, the number of guest arrivals increased by almost six percent, and the number of overnight stays by 3.1 percent. This significantly surpasses the previous record of 8.8 million overnight stays from 2023. The most significant increases were seen in arrivals (+16.7 percent) and overnight stays (+12.5 percent) of international guests. Approximately 5,000 beds have been added in the last five years. This also reflects the steady growth in the tourism sector in the Ruhr metropolis.
