It stands picturesquely, the neoclassical-style villa at the very end of Heckstrasse in Werden. The house, where the last mayor of Werden lived until the early 1950s, was bought by Sparkasse Essen in 2002 and extensively restored. The "Verein der Freunde des Bürgermeisterhauses Werden e.V." (Association of Friends of the Werden Mayor's House) has been holding cabaret evenings in the stylish rooms since 1986 and rents out the listed building for events. Small downside: few parking spaces and - with consideration for the local residents - no noise after 10 pm.
In the adjoining "ice cream laboratory", fruit is cut and all ingredients for the ice creams are weighed by hand, promises the company philosophy. No ready-made mixes or flavor pastes from bags or cans are used, says Managing Director Gino Cassaro. Everything is homemade from high-quality ingredients and using organic eggs and real vanilla. With this concept, Sorelli's has already found a lot of ice cream fans since it opened in August 2012. Payment is always in cash.
