European championships at the Gyros Grill
French fries stalls are really rare in the south of Essen. There are just one or two snack bars in the individual districts around the Baldeneysee are represented. The two Greeks from Werdener Brückengrill are the ones who really know how to do it. The tiny snack bar has been located next to the Gustav Heinemann Bridge and not far from Lake Baldeney for years. Especially on days when day trippers storm the Ruhr Valley and the neighboring school has its lunch break, the Brückengrill is packed. The operators deal with large crowds calmly and routinely. The French fries special is recommended as a side dish or small main course. The Greeks use red onions instead of the traditional white ones. Vegetarians can order saganaki, baked sheep's cheese with salad in pita bread, or a mixed salad from the well-stocked refrigerated counter.
