Journey to Baldeneysee

S-Bahn S6
The S-Bahn line S6 of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein Ruhr (VRR for short) runs between Essen main station and via Düsseldorf and the trade fair in Cologne Deutz to Cologne Nippes. Directly above the regatta grandstand at the Baldeneysee is the S-Bahn stop 'Hügel'. From here it is only a few steps down to the Baldeneysee. The S6 stop Hügel is not barrier-free. A Deutsche Bahn ticket machine is located at the entrance and exit of the S-Bahn stop. From here, you can take the Weisse Flotte Baldeney passenger boats from the Hügel landing stage, opposite the Hügel stop, to various points on the Baldeneysee can be reached.
Barrier-free
For a short walk to the Baldeneysee we recommend getting off at the S6 stop Essen Werden or Essen Stadtwald. The Essen Werden S-Bahn stop is barrier-free. From here, you can walk along the Ruhr either parallel to the B224 to the weir or over the Gustav Heinemann Bridge and then down to the water on a footpath along the towpath, past Brehminsel and Neukircher Mühle towards the weir.
The Essen Stadtwald S-Bahn stop is not barrier-free. From here, walk along Stadtwaldplatz into Lerchenstraße. A footpath and cycle path runs parallel to Lerchenstraße on both sides directly to the Baldeneysee down to the forest.
Bus stop Hügel / Regattahaus
The so-called 'SeeLinie' 181 of Essener Verkehrs-AG stops directly at the specially created stop (H) Hügel / Regattahaus. During the summer months, the SeeLinie commutes at weekends and on public holidays between Essen Werden, Porthofplatz stop via Stadtwaldplatz to Essen Heisingen, stop Baldeneysee. From here, the passenger boats of the Weisse Flotte Baldeney can be used to reach various points on the lake from the Hügel landing stage, opposite the Hügel stop. Baldeneysee can be reached.
Werden S-Bahn station bus stop
Bus routes 169, 180, 181 and 190 stop at Essen Werden S-Bahn station. From there, take the S-Bahn S6 to the Hügel stop or, at weekends in summer, the SeeLinie 181.
Bus stop Stadtwaldplatz
Bus routes 142, 145, 146, 175, 181 and 194 stop at the Stadtwaldplatz bus stop. Change there to the S-Bahn S6 to the Hügel stop or, at weekends in summer, to the SeeLinie 181 bus.
City tour
The city tours of the city of Essen in convertible double-decker buses from Essen main station also stop at the Baldeneyseestop Hügel / Regattahaus. From here the Villa Hügel with the Sparrow House, the Villa Hügel-park with its unique botany and old trees, the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation, the Krupp Forest, the Klusen Chapel and of course the Baldeneysee can all be reached on foot. The passenger boats of the Weisse Flotte Baldeney can be used to reach various points on the Baldeneysee can be reached.
Bicycle
The most flexible way to get around the Baldeneysee the most flexible way to get around. The Baldeneysee lies at an altitude of 52 meters above sea level and is therefore virtually 'in the valley'. As the surrounding districts are all higher, a bike with gears is always recommended.

Many paths lead from the Essen districts of Bredeney, Stadtwald, Heisigen, Fischlaken, Heidhausen, Schuir and Werden to the Baldeneysee. For example, from Stadtwald parallel to Lerchenstraße, from Bredeney through the Krupp forest along the Villa Hügel park, through the Heisinger meadows and through the Fischlaken fields.
Weisse Flotte Baldeney
The Weisse Flotte Baldeney maintains a fleet of passenger ships that call at all the piers around the Baldeneysee around the lake. In this way, all places on the Baldeneysee easily reached by water. You can change to the bus or S-Bahn at the Hügel landing stage.
